About the event

At a time when the workplace continues to be shaped by changes brought by a global pandemic, one thing remains certain – people need more support and they are turning to their employers for help.

As employers take a greater role in the health and wellbeing of their people, employees say they welcome and expect such support. Research from the report, “Shaping a brighter future of work: Global and Local Market Insights,” produced by the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford together with Zurich, revealed that employees around the world are looking to their employers to participate more in their overall wellbeing. Employers have a high “duty of care,” particularly in the wake of a global pandemic that has reshaped the world of work, those interviewed for the report noted.

In providing that help, employers help themselves as it has a massive impact on business and the ability to drive it forward. Employees want to know that their health is valued, and they will choose employers for that reason. If employers want to attract and retain talent, employers should show that they care about their workforce as individuals.

Stress and anxiety were employee health challenges before the pandemic arrived, but lockdowns and remote working arrangements added to those pressures. It has affected family relationships, mental and physical health.

This conference explores some of the new challenges employees face put forth by the global crisis, as they’ve become more fragile and vulnerable. And, if they are to remain healthy and productive, they will need as much support as possible from their employers.

Presentation and panel discussion: Where in the world?

This session explores the very particular issues faced by expats the world over as the pandemic struck. We look at some of the challenges they faced in relocating and also in receiving vaccines. And we look ahead and ask whether the pandemic may have shaped a new future in which there are far fewer expats employed across global corporations. Is this a moment for a major shift in employment patterns?

Presentation and panel discussion: The challenges of changing employers

Covid-19 has accelerated mergers and acquisitions in some sectors of business – the insurance market is not immune in that – so this session looks at how differing employee benefit packages can be successfully merged, keeping the new team engaged and happy to be part of a new organisation. And as companies disappear in the Covid-19 economic fall-out, we will look at how employee benefit programmes can support those losing their jobs, either supporting them into retirement or into new jobs.
